The LSFB Corpus project was developed between 2012 and 2015 at the French Belgian Sign Language Laboratory (LSFB-Lab), which is based at the University of Namur. The project was funded by an Incentive Grant for Scientific Research (Mandat d’Impulsion Scientifique, MIS) awarded by the Fund for Scientific Research – FNRS (ref. F.4505.12). The main objective was to gather a large set of data and make it available for linguistic research on French Belgian Sign Language.
This project benefited from the experience of foreign research teams who had previously gathered data on other sign languages (notably Australian Sign Language – Auslan, Dutch Sign Language – NGT, British Sign Language – BSL and German Sign Language – DGS). The LSFB Corpus is much indebted to Dr Onno Crasborn, principal researcher of the NGT Corpus (2006-2008), for his advice from the very beginning of this project.
